Gamechanger Audio’s Noise Pedal is a broadband signal multiplier that combines a selectable noise source with drive and reverb processing. Begin with white noise, then explore 30 additional noise engines spanning digital glitches, electrical sounds and organic textures including wind, thunder and fire. Each engine forms the basis of the pedal’s processing, meaning changes to the noise source directly affect the character and behaviour of both the drive and reverb sections.
Shape the selected noise texture before processing using the Chaos, Strength and Spectrum controls, then route it into Noisedrive and Noiseverb. With no instrument connected, the Noise Pedal can also operate as a standalone noise generator, allowing the noise engines to be explored and played as instruments in their own right. Via its 3.5 mm MIDI connection, the Noise modes can also be played as a paraphonic noise synth engine.
Noisedrive
Noisedrive cross-pollinates your instrument signal with the selected noise source, transferring the noise engine’s textures to your sound. It offers three processing styles:
- Osc — Turns the noise engine into a pitch-tracking oscillator that follows your playing, using LFSR, noise oscillators and more.
- Freq — Breaks down both your signal and the noise source into frequency content, then recombines them through FFT, spectral modulation, vocoding, formant shifting and timbral shaping.
- Wave — Multiplies your signal and the noise source in the time domain, using AM, ring modulation, wavefolding, waveshaping and more to reshape the waveform directly.
The green Drive Page provides four controls:
- Method — Select from 20 multiplication methods within each processing style, for a total of 60 methods.
- Amount — Positive settings add drive to the instrument signal, while negative settings replace the signal with noise.
- Sustain — Positive settings create long, exaggerated sustain; negative settings produce a fast, sharply articulated response suited to drums and percussive bursts.
- Timbre — Adjusts the brightness or darkness of the output.
Noisedrive has its own footswitch. Press and hold it to engage Feedback for a wild, unpredictable wall of noise.
Noiseverb
Noiseverb uses the same shaped noise source to construct textured reverberation, with three processing types on its independent blue Verb Page:
- FND — A Feedback Delay Network that combines the input signal with the noise source and distributes the result over time.
- Spec — Shapes the noise source with the spectrum of your instrument, then feeds it into the reverb engine. The resulting reverb is generated entirely from noise.
- Res — Produces swarms of resonances from peaks in the instrument signal and noise engine output, creating a phasey, resonant character.
Four controls shape the reverb’s development:
- Level — Positive settings send the dry instrument signal into the reverb; negative settings send the post-drive signal instead. This routing remains active when Noisedrive is bypassed, so Drive Page adjustments continue to affect the reverb character.
- Size — Covers short reverbs through to endless, ethereal spaces. Negative settings use an alternative diffusion method, providing two variations of each reverb engine for six reverb modes in total.
- Shape — Applies either ducking or pre-delay. Ducking reduces the reverb as new notes arrive to preserve articulation, while pre-delay introduces a fixed offset between the initial sound and reverb.
- Filter — Ranges from thin, sparse textures to thick, saturated tones.
As the noise engine is the foundation of the reverb sound, changes to the Noise Texture, Chaos and Spectrum settings all feed directly into the reverberation process.
Noiseverb has its own footswitch. Press and hold it to engage Freeze, capturing and sustaining the current reverb texture.
Optical Proximity Sensor
A built-in IR optical proximity sensor converts physical movement into parameter control. Assign any number of controls across all pages, with each parameter able to move in either direction. A single gesture can reshape the noise source, alter the multiplication process and transform the reverb simultaneously.
Use the sensor for subtle modulation, abrupt noise glitches, resonant sweeps or broad effect changes controlled by hand or foot. Press both footswitches together to enable or disable the sensor.
