The Roland Juno-6 is a six-voice polyphonic analogue synthesizer introduced in the early 1980s and the first instrument in Roland's Juno series. Its straightforward architecture combines digitally controlled oscillators with analogue filtering, amplification and Roland's distinctive stereo chorus.
Each of its six voices features a DCO with sawtooth and variable pulse waveforms, alongside a square-wave sub oscillator and noise generator. Pulse width can be controlled manually or modulated by the envelope or LFO. The filter section combines a non-resonant high-pass filter with a resonant low-pass VCF, with envelope, LFO and keyboard tracking modulation.
A single ADSR envelope can control the filter and amplifier, while the LFO provides modulation with adjustable rate and delay. Performance controls include Roland's pitch/modulation bender, octave transpose, hold and key transpose functions, plus an onboard arpeggiator with selectable direction, range and external clock input.
The Juno-6 also introduced the analogue stereo chorus that became a defining feature of the Juno series, with two selectable chorus modes providing increasingly pronounced modulation and stereo width. Unlike the subsequent Juno-60, the Juno-6 has no patch memory, leaving all parameters immediately accessible from the front panel.
This example has also been fitted with a JU6-KBD MIDI modification, adding MIDI input for external control of the keyboard while retaining the original synthesizer architecture.
