The Gravity is a high-performance contact microphone that captures vibrations travelling through solid objects rather than sound transmitted through the air. This allows it to reveal unique sonic textures from acoustic instruments, guitar amplifiers, sheet metal, and virtually any flat surface capable of vibrating, making it an ideal companion to conventional microphones rather than a replacement.
Unlike traditional contact microphones that rely on piezo or geophone elements, the Gravity uses a vibration speaker-style transducer with a moving plate and coil. This design delivers an extended frequency response, higher output level, and lower noise floor, producing a more natural and detailed recording that connects directly to any microphone preamp via a balanced XLR output.
For optimum performance, the Gravity is designed to sit on a flat horizontal surface, while its rubber-coated feet provide enough grip to operate on angled surfaces up to 30 degrees. The enclosure is manufactured from lightweight, carbon fibre-reinforced 3D-printed plastic, providing a durable housing for the transducer, transformer, and output connector.
