The Behringer AKS MINI is a compact three-voice polyphonic analogue synthesizer inspired by the architecture of the classic EMS Synthi AKS. It combines three analogue oscillators, a multimode analogue filter, modulation, an envelope generator and hands-on performance controls with modern features including patch memory, MIDI and a motion sequencer.

Three independent VCOs form the core of the instrument, with variable sawtooth and square/pulse waveforms feeding an analogue signal path based on classic VCO, VCF and VCA designs. The filter provides selectable 12 or 24dB/octave low-pass response, while an LFO with sine, sawtooth, square and random waveforms can modulate oscillator pitch and filter cutoff.

A 27-key capacitive touch keyboard provides a compact playing surface, complemented by a two-axis joystick that can be assigned to parameters for real-time expression and sound manipulation. Polyphonic operation allows the three voices to be played independently for chords, while unison mode combines them for thicker monophonic sounds.

The integrated 16-step motion sequencer can record parameter movements as part of a sequence, allowing patches to evolve rhythmically without external modulation. Ten pattern memory slots are provided, along with adjustable scale, tempo, step triggering, smoothing and other sequencing functions.

A digital spring reverb provides ambience within the otherwise analogue signal architecture, while comprehensive MIDI implementation includes parameter control via NRPN and CC messages along with bulk loading and saving. USB-C provides both power and class-compliant USB MIDI connectivity, with conventional 5-pin MIDI and analogue sync providing straightforward integration with other synthesizers, drum machines and computer-based setups.
