Zynthian is a compact, open-source music workstation that combines the functions of a keyboard expander, multi-effects processor, MIDI router, sampler, sequencer, and groovebox into a single Raspberry Pi-powered unit. Running the custom-built zynthianOS, it offers an intuitive touchscreen and encoder-based interface for building complex synthesis and effects chains, making it equally suited to studio production, live performance, and experimental sound design.

Built around a community-driven, fully hackable platform, Zynthian includes more than 30 synthesis engines, faithful emulations of classic keyboards and organs, powerful virtual analogue synths, and support for SF2, SF3, SFZ, and GIG soundfonts, with 4GB of sounds included. Over 500 onboard effects cover everything from reverb, delay, chorus, and compression to granular processing, vocoding, and pitch correction, while support for NAM, AIDA-X, and impulse responses allows realistic amplifier, cabinet, and effects modelling.

Creative tools include MIDI processing with arpeggiators, chord generators, LFOs, splits, quantisation, and velocity mapping, alongside the ZynSeq step sequencer for groovebox-style sequencing. Integrated live looping, multitrack audio recording, MIDI recording and playback, Pure Data compatibility, MOD-UI patching, and the evolving ZynSampler engine with time-stretching, pitch-shifting, looping, and ADSR editing make Zynthian an exceptionally versatile platform for musicians, producers, and sound designers alike.
