Catalinbread Crooner

The Hudson Electronics Crooner is Inspired by the RCA BA-31 microphone preamps found on countless classic recordings, the Crooner is a transformer- and germanium-based preamp/overdrive that moves from clean boost through to heavily saturated vintage-style distortion. Built around a BA-31-inspired circuit, it offers more headroom and dynamic range than Hudson's Airstrip design while retaining the character and compression associated with early recording equipment.

The Push control drives a UREI-inspired discrete op-amp into the preamp stage, while the Trim control adjusts the gain of the BA-31 circuit itself. Used together, they cover a wide range of tones, from subtle harmonic enhancement and low-gain drive to thick, compressed transformer saturation.
