A tactile polyphonic instrument where gesture, synthesis, and system design collide.

Atrium isn't trying to be a workstation, a groovebox, or a modular clone. It's its own thing. Built around physical interaction and evolving systems, it invites you to play, shape, and organise sound in ways that feel immediate, but go deep fast.

At its core are five fully analogue voices, each with their own identity, but designed to move together. Polyphony here isn't static - it's fluid, reactive, and constantly reshaped by your gestures and modulation choices.

Sound Engine

Each voice begins with analogue oscillators and expands into three distinct timbral approaches:

  • Suboctaves + noise for raw, foundational textures
  • Frequency modulation for complex harmonic movement
  • Formant synthesis for vocal-like, shifting tones

Everything passes through lowpass gate circuits, giving Atrium its dynamic, organic response - somewhere between filtering and amplitude shaping.

At the heart of the instrument sits Spectre, a resonant processing section combining:

  • 3x analogue bandpass filters
  • 2x BBD delays in a feedback network

This isn't a clean effects section. It's part of the instrument's body - designed to resonate, colour, and feed back into itself. Subtle or unstable, depending on how far you push it.

Gesture + Recording

Atrium is built to be played with your hands:

  • Capacitive multi-touch plates
  • Mechanical keyswitches
  • Continuous gestural control over pitch, timbre, and modulation

Those gestures don't disappear. They can be captured and extended via:

  • 5x gesture recorders
  • Record any interaction, across multiple parameters
  • Quantised or free timing
  • Step or continuous playback
  • Variable playback speed and clock relationships

This turns performance into composition, without breaking flow.

Modulation System

Everything can modulate everything. No fixed routing, no arbitrary limits.

  • Assign any source to any parameter
  • Continuous control over depth and polarity
  • Unlimited mappings

Modulation sources include:

  • Polyphonic LFOs (11 shapes, phase-offset per voice)
  • Loopable envelopes (Contour)
  • Internal state-derived modulation sources
  • External MIDI and CV inputs

Timing can be free-running or tempo-based, with divisions and multiplications for rhythmic control.

Sequencing + Structure

Atrium includes an embedded sequencer, but the focus is broader than step programming. It's about building systems:

  • Link timing across gesture recorders
  • Create evolving, interdependent structures
  • Shift between immediate play and higher-level organisation

It's as much about how you organise sound as the sound itself.

Connectivity + Integration

Atrium plays well with other gear:

  • MIDI in/out (3.5mm, Type A & B support)
  • 3x CV inputs (+/-5V, protected to +/-12V)
  • USB-C device for MIDI + DAW integration
  • USB-A host for controllers and MIDI devices

Power is simple and flexible:

  • USB-C, 5V / 3A
  • Runs happily from power banks or computer ports
  • Typical draw ~600mA

Build + Feel

  • Polycarbonate and aluminium enclosure
  • Capacitive touch + mechanical controls
  • Solid, performance-ready design

This is an instrument you learn. One that develops alongside your own technique.

Atrium rewards curiosity. You can start simple - a few voices, a gesture, a loop - and quickly find yourself building evolving systems that feel alive under your hands.

If you're looking for a fixed workflow, this isn't it.
If you want an instrument that grows with how you think and play, Atrium is something special.
