A seriously high-end four channel preamp from George Massenburg, the GML 8304 was built around the input stage from the GML Master Recording Console and aimed squarely at transparency. No transformers and no obvious colour, just huge amounts of clean gain and an incredibly open, natural sound.
Hand-built in the USA with discrete Class A circuitry, the 8304 became a bit of a benchmark for engineers wanting to hear more of the microphone and less of the preamp. It handles complex acoustic material especially well, with a big, detailed low end and a very fast, clear top without sounding clinical.
