Broughton Helion Bass Preamp

The Helion distils the preamp section of the Traynor TS-50B bass amp into a compact pedal format. Built around a mix of op-amps and transistors, it delivers a punchy solid-state voice with plenty of headroom, thanks to an internal supply that recreates the original amp’s ±15V rails. Clean settings stay tight and articulate, while pushing the gain brings out a sharp, grinding edge reminiscent of tones heard from bands like Shellac and The Jesus Lizard.

A three-band EQ with bass, middle, and treble controls lets you shape your sound, while a Boost switch adds extra high-frequency gain for more bite. A Pad switch provides 12dB of output attenuation when line level isn’t required, and the pedal can easily drive a power amp directly.

Runs on standard 9V DC, centre-negative (approx. 15 mA). True bypass switching.
