The Electro-Harmonix Pico Deep Freeze Sound Retainer/Sustainer is a powerful and compact pedal that can take your sound manipulation to new levels. This pedal allows you to freeze a moment in your sound, serving as a sustain pedal to hold chords and notes as a backdrop to your playing or as a canvas for crafting unique tones that would be impossible with a standard guitar.
It builds upon the capabilities of the original Freeze pedal and adds layering, adjustable attack/decay speeds, glissando, dedicated volume controls, and three distinct modes: Latch, Moment, and Auto which give you a wide range of sonic possibilities.

The Deep Freeze gives you instant sound freezing in three modes:

  • In LATCH mode, sound is frozen each time you press the footswitch until you bypass the effect.
  • MOMENT mode freezes the sound only while the footswitch is held down.
  • AUTO mode automatically captures sound each time it detects a signal above its threshold, allowing for foot-free freezes.

Controls on the Deep Freeze allow you to fine-tune the effect. Separate DRY and EFFECT volume controls enable you to blend signals from subtle backing to full-effect experimentation. The GLISS knob adjusts the morph time between frozen sounds, creating ethereal soundscapes. The SPEED/LAYER knob varies the attack/decay time in Moment and Auto modes, or the amount of layering in Latch mode, opening up possibilities for playing complex chords effortlessly.
