This instrument is an electronically accurate 1:1 recreation of the original OSCar, originally manufactured by the Oxford Synthesiser Company from 1983 to 1985. The APOB OSCar40 preserves the OSCar’s hybrid architecture of two digital oscillators with an analogue filter section, while running a modern operating system with full MIDI CC implementation. The build uses high quality PCBs, original-specification pots, knobs and button caps, an ultra-quiet power supply, and a custom steel enclosure.
Oxford Synthesiser Company was founded in 1982 by Chris Huggett and Paul Wiffen. The OSCar was launched in 1983, combining digitally generated oscillator and waveshaping concepts with an analogue filtering stage. The control surface is organised around direct access to oscillator shaping, filter and modulation, with a built-in sequencer that supports variable note lengths and rests, and can be used alongside performance playing in duophonic operation.
Handmade from scratch right here in Melbourne.
