The VOX VFZ-1 revisits the classic late-’60s two-transistor fuzz often associated with the Mk 1.5, updating its expressive breakup and mid-rich character for modern use. Instead of unstable germanium parts, VOX developed a carefully voiced silicon design that preserves the smooth compression, harmonic saturation, and touch sensitivity of vintage fuzz while remaining consistent, quiet, and reliable.
A higher-than-usual input impedance allows the VFZ-1 to retain natural guitar harmonics and work comfortably with buffers and wah pedals, removing a common limitation of older fuzz designs. Expanded tone-shaping controls make it easy to tighten low end, soften high frequencies, or dial in lower-gain, volume-rolled-back fuzz tones directly from the pedal. The result is a flexible, musical fuzz that delivers classic character with far fewer compromises.
