The Paiste 200 Series 20" Ride from the 1980s—made in West Germany—was a budget-conscious bronze cymbal that delivers surprising character for its price point. Crafted from B8 bronze (92% copper, 8% tin), it offers a bright, focused tone with a clean, defined ping and modest wash. While not as complex or refined as Paiste’s pro-level 2002 series, the 200 Series Ride still provides a usable, articulate sound well-suited for rock, pop, or beginner jazz players. Its medium weight allows for decent stick definition without being overly dry, and the bell cuts clearly without dominating the mix.

Compared to other Paiste lines, the 200 Series sits just below the 505 and 2002 series in terms of tonal depth and manufacturing finesse. The 2002s—crafted from CuSn8 bronze like the 200 Series but with far tighter tolerances and higher quality control—are known for their musical shimmer and dynamic range, particularly in live settings. The 505 series, often considered a sleeper classic, offers a warmer, more nuanced voice than the 200s despite also being B8. While the 200 Series lacks the refined lathing and hammering of its higher-end siblings, it still captures the unmistakable Paiste brightness, making it a solid entry-level vintage ride with classic '80s charm.

A crack has occurred, and drilled long ago.
