Extremely rare 1951 Maton HG25 Dreadnought featuring gorgeous bookmatched spruce with blackwood back and sides, mahogany neck and rosewood fingerboard. Atypical brass frets with open gear tuners and finished in fantastic nitrocellulose that has well & truly started to check and open up however is very stable and still showcases a very glossy finish.
Virtually wear on the fingerboard whatsoever with fretlife at about 95%. This guitar uniquely features ladder strutting as opposed to the later introduced X-bracing however there is no distortion to the spruce top and is in excellent condition.
The original owner's name, Judy (who purchased this guitar brand new at Alans Music Centre in Melbourne, Australia back in 1951), is still evident inside the guitar where it was written in black ink.
Made in Melbourne, Australia at the original Maton factory in 1951. A true piece of Australian history.
1 of 45 reportedly made. In 1952 this model became the HG100 which was used by Elvis Presley in the film Jailhouse Rock.
