The MidiALF is an 8-step, DIY-friendly MIDI/CV sequencer featuring a 40×2 LCD, 8+2 clickable rotary encoders, 8 LED switches, and 8 tactile switches. It offers flexible sequencing with four sub-sequences that can be linked into two 16-step sequences or one full 32-step sequence. Each sequence includes 10 tracks: note/mute, velocity/skip, gate/legato, and two assignable CC sends. The device supports various sequence directions—forward, backward, pendulum, and random—and incorporates nonlinear progression modes inspired by the MIDIbox SEQ v4, such as interval-based movement, repeats, and conditional triggers. These triggers enable dynamic variations similar to those found in Elektron's RYTM and Digitakt, allowing for the introduction of randomness and controlled variation in sequences.
Additional features include randomisation of notes, velocity, and CC values, with the capability to apply different scales per step for intricate melodic changes. Note re-triggering (2-16 per step) can be chromatic or scale-restricted, offering classic ratcheting effects. The sequencer also provides a song mode for chaining sequences, step and sequence randomisation across 167 music scales, and both real-time and step recording. Two assignable CC LFOs offer modulation options, while internal storage accommodates up to 64 programs. The device supports remote control via MIDI CC, SysEx for backup and firmware updates, and includes an optional CV extension board that adds four CV and four gate outputs. Its stable internal clock, based on Mutable Instruments’ MIDIpal technology, operates at 25-250 BPM, ensuring precise timing for all sequencing needs
Includes power supply and printed manual.
