Preceding the legendary Tube Screamer, the Ibanez OD855 Overdrive II represents the missing evolutionary link in Ibanez’s drive lineage. Released in the mid-to-late 1970s, this lighter green unit shared the same chassis style as the later TS-808 and housed a near-identical circuit, differing by just a single board digit.
Unlike the earlier orange and dark green Overdrives, the OD855 pushed into thicker, fuzzier saturation reminiscent of a Big Muff, while still retaining the midrange bite that would define the Screamer sound. Raw, gritty, and gloriously imperfect, it’s a snapshot of Ibanez discovering its signature overdrive voice. Made in Japan by Maxon
