Introduced in 1959 as Gibson’s most affordable solid body, the Melody Maker shared much of its DNA with the Les Paul Junior but came with thinner pickups, a slim slab mahogany body and a narrow simplified Gibson headstock. By 1961 it had shifted to a pointed double cutaway design, like this incredible 1964 example in Sunburst with superb checking on the finish. It features rosewood fretboard and a single bright and responsive "Fender-style" single-coil at the bridge. Built in Kalamazoo, USA.
Specs:
- Mahogany body and set neck
- Rosewood fingerboard
- Single-coil pickup
- Compensated wraparound bridge
- Pointed double-cutaway body shape
- 24.75-inch scale length
Machine heads have been replaced with vintage style Kluson Deluxe tuners. Includes original bridge, truss cover, screws, nuts and tuning machine heads. Includes hard shell case.
Has had neck reset in the past, leading us to believe a possible break at the heel however is very stable. Finish has been removed in the process of reattaching the neck to the body. Rear of neck has been refinished with overspray present and frets have been replaced long ago. Along with the tuners, bridge, frets, truss rod cover & the screws, the strap pins have also been replaced with Fender style ones too.
