In Stock mode, the signal path mimics that of a standard '68 Plexi, running from the input jack to the speaker jack (minus the speaker emulation). When you activate the Hot mode, it introduces an additional pre-amp gain stage similar to a 12AX7 tube. The Hot mode includes its own level adjustment, allowing you to apply a substantial pre-amp boost of up to 28dB, which is a whole lot of gain.
